Welcome to Christmas at Desert Spring

A Different Kind of Christmas 2021

Our Goal for 2021 is $107,000.

Congratulations, Desert Spring Church!

You raised $108,000 for Family Promise of Las Vegas, and $8,000 for Soaring Unlimited in Haiti, for a total of $116,000. Our goal of $107,000 was surpassed!

What is A Different Kind of Christmas?

Each year, in an effort to keep Jesus Christ the focus of Christmas, Desert Spring Church does Christmas a little differently. We choose a mission project to bless, one that will stretch us and keep our focus on gifts worthy of Jesus’ birth.

How do we raise the money? We ask Desert Spring folks to willingly give up receiving one gift and instead to participate in the mission. And, instead of giving a gift to people who don’t really need them, we ask people to give a gift to the mission project in honor of friends and family. We ask Desert Spring children if they would like to give up receiving one gift in order that those funds go to the mission.

In addition to your donations, our entire Christmas Eve offering goes to our chosen partner.

The goal of “A Different Kind of Christmas” is simple; let’s make Christmas about Jesus!

Congratulations, Desert Spring Church!

You raised $104,083 for Family Promise of Las Vegas, and $7,064 for Soaring Unlimited in Haiti, for a total of $111,147. Our goal of $107,000 was surpassed!

Your love and care for people who need help will make a difference for generations to come. Well done, good and faithful servants!

This year, we partnered with Family Promise, a local organization that helps homeless families work their way out of homelessness and into homes, work, and stability. The organization has a very high success rate, and we have been blessed to work with them assisting families in the program for many years.

For years, Family Promise housed families in the program at local churches, then each day vans would pick up the families and take them to another location for their classes, training and more. The pandemic has changed how Family Promise is able to best support families in the program.

Early in 2022 Family Promise will begin construction on a facility that will provide everything families in the program need in one location. Families will be housed in the facility in “Bridge” apartments. All the training and resourcing need for families will take place in the facility as well.

There will be many opportunities for Desert Spring to work hands on with families, and we look forward to the opportunity to volunteer our time with Family Promise.

This year, we are partnering with Family Promise, a local organization that helps homeless families work their way out of homelessness and into homes, work, and stability. The organization has a very high success rate, and we have been blessed to work with them assisting families in the program for many years.

The pandemic has changed how Family Promise is able to best support families in the program. In addition, grant monies brought about by the pandemic are allowing Family Promise to realize a dream. For years, Family Promise housed families in the program at local churches, then each day vans would pick up the families and take them to another location for their classes/ training and more. Early in 2022 Family Promise will begin construction on a facility that will provide everything families in the program need in one location. There will be many opportunities for Desert Spring to work hands on with families, and we look forward to the opportunity.

A bridge apartment is about 335 square feet, so it is designed as temporary housing. Community kitchens and play areas create community for families staying in bridge apartments. A family can stay in a bridge apartment until completing the Family Promise program and then are able to move into a home of their own.

Each bridge apartment costs $50,000 to build. This year, our Different Kind of Christmas offering goal is to build two apartments at a cost of $100,000. As we begin working to our goal, we are pleased to announce that due to the work of one of our members, a lead gift of $38,000 has been made toward this goal!

In addition, this year we will be tithing (giving 10%) of our offering to “Soaring Unlimited”, a United Methodist related ministry providing family stability for struggling families in Northern Haiti. You will hear more about Soaring Unlimited soon.

Christmas Eve – 9pm Worship Live Stream

Children’s Christmas Pageant

“The Loaned Manger” Christmas Pageant will be performed live at our 5pm Christmas Eve worship service.

Angel Tree 2021

Thank you to everyone who adopted the children from our Angel Tree!

Christmas for 100 children from Family Promise and 40 children from Sandy Valley will be brighter thanks to you.

We hope you enjoy shopping and wrapping their gifts knowing that you are blessing not just the children, but their parents & guardians as well. Thanks to your generosity, their limited resources can be used to take care of more basic expenses like feeding their families.

Please return your gifts to the church no later than Sunday, December 12 to allow for time to prepare and distribute them.

Living Nativity at Glittering Lights

Desert Spring Church will share the message of Christmas with our community by portraying the Living Nativity during Glittering Lights at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, December 19 from 5:00pm to 9:30pm.

This is a sign of hope for our church as we return to our pre-pandemic ministry tradition, and a sign of hope to the thousands of folks who will be blessed by being able to experience this beautiful expression of Christ’s birth.

We will meet at the church at 4:15 if you want to carpool.

Come out and enjoy the festivities including food, hot chocolate, s’mores and more. It’s a great tradition for your family to be a part of.

If you would like to volunteer, please follow this link to our volunteer form.
