One Church, Many Stories

A Letter from Pastor David

November 12, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:,

This year’s campaign is called “Better Together: One Church, Many Stories.” For almost 30 years, Desert

Spring has “Welcomed all people to discover and live a life of purpose, as together we make a meaningful

difference in the lives of others.” And we have stories to tell! We have stories of people coming to the faith

and of being healed. We have stories of God working among us to do the impossible. We have stories of

building and expanding our church and ministry. We have stories of transformation as we reached out to the greater community, meeting the needs of thousands of people.

This year we add the story of the many ways Desert Spring responded to the pandemic. We improved our

online worship experience and added online ministries for adults, youth, and children. Our online ministries have been extremely successful: more people are attending Bible Study, more people attending meetings, and more people attending online worship than before the pandemic.

We have also served the community:

providing financial support through Hopeful Hundreds, addressing food insecurity through the Sandy Valley food pantry, and assisting homeless families through our ongoing partnership with Family Promise.

Even in the midst of a pandemic and all the changes taking place, thanks to your support Desert Spring continues to do vital and needed ministry, blessing the lives of many, many people.

Of course, 2020 brought challenges. The pandemic, and resulting shutdown of the economy, impacted the

finances of our church. We addressed the shortfall in giving through applying for, and receiving, $133,000 in grants. Along with budget cuts, the grants will help us through the financial challenges of this year.

Next year brings with it great uncertainty. We don’t know how long the pandemic will continue. We don’t

know how long the economy will be impacted. Nor do we know if future grant monies will be available to

help with any giving shortfall. What we do know is next year will bring with it great challenge.

How will we meet the challenge? The same way we met challenges in the past. The same way we will get

through this year. We trust in God and trust in each other, as together we do everything we can to advance

the gospel of Jesus Christ, improving the lives of people.

We know some of our members will not be able to give as they would like—finances are tight for many of our people. We know some of our folks haven’t been financially impacted by the pandemic, and will be able to continue giving as before. And, we know some of our members are doing very well financially right now and will be able to give more than was possible in the past. Together, with your help, we will meet the challenge of next year.

Desert Spring: “Welcoming all people to discover and live a life of purpose through Jesus Christ, as together

we make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.” This is our story.

Pledge Sunday is November 22. Please prayerfully consider how you will be able to participate. Pledge cards can be returned to the office by mail or in person, or you can complete it online at

God bless you,

Pastor Dave
