Scripture Reading – Philippians 4:5b-7
The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Over the course of the last week, I watched several “Coronaversary” specials. Each of which, in their own way, took a look back at the events of the last year. As I reflected on these and remembered my own experience of each phase of that difficult journey, St. Paul’s words from Philippians came to mind. While I cannot say that I did not worry about anything, I can say, that through it all I went to God in prayer, and looking back, I can definitely see that the Lord was near every step of the way.
St. Paul’s words of assurance and instruction to us, are born from his experience of the many difficult journeys that he endured with God by his side. He is sharing with us that which he has experienced to be true. “The Lord is near…do not worry…pray…the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Enduring in faith through difficult times is one way that we grow in our assurance and knowledge of God. How has your faith sustained you during this difficult time? In what ways has your faith grown over the past year? What can you affirm to be true through your experience of this difficult journey with God by your side? For what are you thankful?
As we look forward in hope to the future that is before us, let us take some time to reflect on where we have been, and to give thanks to God, whose grace sustained us every step of the way.
God Bless You,
Pastor Tim
