A young girl born on a plantation in Virginia was promised her freedom on her 18th birthday. Instead, she is forced to leave her mother and boyfriend and is sent to Devil’s Half Acre in Richmond. It’s a jail where slaves are “broken”, tortured, and sold. She must outwit the jailer to barter love and freedom to escape.
