  • K - 5 sunday school

    K - 5 Sunday School is offered

    for the 9:30am & 11:00am worship services.

At Desert Spring Church, we know that children are born with an innate sense of wonder and faith. Our teachers and curriculum provide a foundation of experiences on which our children can build a life of learning and spiritual growth. At Desert Spring, children will feel the love of God and want to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

At 9:30am, children (K - 5) are taught by grade level. We use a rotational model curriculum that is age appropriate. Each unit takes 4 - 6 weeks to complete, but has weekly stand alone lessons.

At 11:00am, children (K - 5) are taught in a one room setting. We use a rotational model curriculum that is age appropriate for each student. Each unit takes 4 - 6 weeks to complete, but has weekly stand alone lessons.

Both Sunday School times engage the kids in discussion of the scripture and message. Teachers lovingly answer questions such as: How does that scripture apply today? Is God saying something to ME in this scripture?  How do I use this scripture in my daily life?

Teachers offer activities, games, or crafts to enhance the understanding of the scripture while engaging the children in learning fun. Desert Spring Children's Ministries encourages families to incorporate scripture study and prayer into their daily activities.

** Teachers are needed for the 9:30am and 11:00am hour. All curriculum, supplies and training is provided.

In keeping with safe sanctuary policies, all teachers are background checked.

  • read with rascal

Read with Rascal is a reading program for children of elementary age. Children bring a few of their favorite books and find it fun and challenging to read to the certified therapy dogs.

The children see the dogs are non-judgmental, so they feel comfortable reading to them. Dogs listen attentively while allowing children to read at their own pace. A child’s success in school depends on great reading skills and this is the perfect place for the child to accomplish this.

Adults relax, and enjoy the children and dogs.  Younger children listen, run around and play. We serve refreshments and have handouts for the children.

    All ages are welcome!

Read with Rascal dogs are registered through national organizations: Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Michael’s Angel Paws, Independent Therapy Dogs, Inc., etc.

This program is sponsored by Desert Spring United Methodist Church, however, NO CHURCH AFFILIATION IS NECESSARY to participate! Read  with Rascal is free of cost to participants.

  • acolytes

    3rd grade and up

Acolytes are young people who assist with worship services.

They light the candles at the beginning of the 8:00am and 9:30am services, shake hands with worshipers during the greeting, help collect the offering during the 8:00am service, assist with communion (with their parents' permission), and extinguish the candles at the end of the service.

During the 8:00am service, acolytes remain in the sanctuary. Most of the 9:30am service is spent in Children's Sunday school.

Each month, a schedule is prepared for the acolytes. Changes are made as needed to fit family plans, vacations, etc.

As a convenience to the family, if two or more acolytes are in the same family, they will be scheduled to serve together unless the parents request otherwise.

If you have any questions or if your child would like to serve,

please fill out our volunteer interest form HERE.
